More I Top Ideas! The finishing details!

Played with my I top again this weekend. This time, I made a cover for the Cricut Jukebox, and wanted to have the perfect touch of the end of my drawstrings. So, used the steps below:
1) Fussy cut your fabric. See the second picture for the fussy cut fabric.
2) Place glue dot on the top of a Dritz button using the same button size as one of your I Top brads. Make sure the button top is the same shape as the I top brad shape (Dritz has two styles).
3) Center fabric on the button and place in the I top as you would your brad cover
4) Remove the shank from your Dritz button back using pliers. You can do this on some of the I top brads, but some of them are not easily removed. The first picture shows the button with shank, the second photo has the button back with no shank.
5) Place glue dot on the end of your ribbon pull string and attach it the inside of the back button piece
6) Place the button back on the I top as you would the brad back and assemble as you would the brads from I top.
7) To finish the back of the button, place a piece of bling with a glue dot.
Another beautiful I top creation! See third picture.
And the last picture, the Jukebox Cover. Can you tell that I love to embellish and hate to dust?

SU? I'll Cover you too! Just made a custom Big Shot cover...

Just made a custom Big Shot Cover for a Cricut Forum member. She saw my Jukebox and asked if I could make a Big Shot cover. She made the mistake of saying that she didn't know how anyone could cove the machine without making it look like Pajamas. It then became a challenge to me. How could a make a cover and still keep a purse like look? Well I thought on it awhile and remembered the Longabarger basket purses and my plan was made. How though to work out that big handle?! Then it hit me! The big oversize grommets that are so big right now at Tammy Tadd. I will be using this to remake my Cuttlebug cover, as I am not happy enough with that one.
I pleated the ruffle at the top this time. Love that look, and then made an inside lining drawstring bag. Once again, leaving it optional to access your machines handle with the cover on. Please feel free to leave your comments!

A Year to Share! My first year of Cricut Covers in photos

Just thought I would share all of the Cricut dust covers I made this year. I loved making all of them and hope to make more! You can still find some of the ones pictured at my Etsy store! Some are gone to happy homes, but were so pretty I thought you might like to see! Double click on the photo to get a larger view. The Jukebox covers are sideways, but I didn't know how to get the thumbnail without turning the photos.
I will see about a scrapbag post another day...

New Jukebox Cover Available!

I am so excited to have found the time to make the pattern I had in mind for the Cricut Jukebox! I was once again inspired by a Tammy Tadd bag called Girly Girl. I saw some of my competitors covers on the Cricut website and I felt mine would be more fashionable! Also, I like being able to access the handles on my machine's even if they are covered. I think this is a big plus for all of my Cricut Machine covers!
Oh, and who can resist the Pom-Pom trim!? I have been looking at it for a long time, and knew a ruffle would be too big for this cover. So, I took a clue from Tammy and used it at the bottom piecing seam.
Since this is a new product for me, I would love your comments! Wouldn't it be fun to have both covers?!

I Won a Finicky Frog Pincushion!

So, excited I won a pincushion from The Finicky Frog Etsy shop! I came across her shop last night while trying to figure out how to promote my own store by visiting the Etsy discussion groups. She had a contest that ended too quickly for me to post a link, so I entered myself. Here is a picture of the one I chose in green and blue, the colors of my craft room. But, she has so many pretty pin cushions it was hard to choose! This would be the perfect gift for the sewer in your life. Even if they have everything, they can't have a pin cushion as pretty as these! Don't you just love the red and green one below?! And her prices are amazing!

More on the Church Window:

Well finally got around to working with the cutfile I shared on August 30, for myself. First, I needed to borrow a cartridge, then I had a migrain patch and needed to wait to use the alcohol inks. Smells seem to trigger the migrains or make them worse. Then it occured to me that I might have some paper I could use for the stained glass. I found some Daisy D in the stash and here is my page. If you like the cut file, please visit my Older posts at the bottom of the page and look for the August 30, 2009 post. Thanks!

Win a Cricut or All 4 New Cartridges! Contest Closed

Found this contest this morning and it is too good to pass up! So, here it is:

This is contest entry for those crazy folks at TodaysMama and Cricut. Be sure to check out Cricut's cool new cartridges and the chance at $30,000 in travel for you and your friends at the Great Gypsy Escape site (this is a separate contest from the machine one listed above and below)!
According to the rules you must copy the bold text below and answer the questions on your blog and then send a link to your post via email to info@todaysmama.com with "Cricut Meme" in the subject line.

Winners may choose a Cricut Machine or all four of the newly released cartridges - I'd love that. You have to copy all of the text below and post the answers to the questions on your blog - so here goes:

Great Escape Meme
1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be?
2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car?
3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do?
4. What is your guilty pleasure?
5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home?
6. Last book that you couldn't put down?
7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch?
8. What is your favorite local escape?
9. How do you escape on a budget?
Best food you've ever had while on vacation.

Here are my answers:

1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be?I know Diane from Capadia listed Hawaii, and I would choose it too, Hawaii!

2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car?Lately, it is anything from Rascal Flatt's greatest hits.

3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do?
I would have to say, a scrapbooking event for all my sisters and friends with a designer hostess with mega talent to do a make and take. Hmmm...who would I choose as hostess? So many talented designers, Annabell from Bits and Pieces, Penny Duncan with Penny Duncan Creations, Christine Middlecamp, or Kazan Clark from NuNu Toodles. There are so many talented artists to choose, you sure we can't make it a weekend event?

4. What is your guilty pleasure?Scrapbooking supplies, especially Cricut Cartridges!

5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home?Hong Kong, China

6. Last book that you couldn't put down? The Tomorrow Code by Brian Falkner. You will find this in the young adult section. I still read to my soon to be 10 year old, this in one we read together. Makes me thankful for an opportunity to read good books that have been published in this category since I was a teen, and I wonder what I am missing. Keep on reading to them, no matter their age!

7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch
My favorite movie is Independence Day. I think I like the idea that humans can use their brains to conquer an overwhelming force.

8. What is your favorite local escape?Slammer Crop in Aledo Illinois. This crop is put together by Mandi Andersen, and held at an old county jail, now a B & B. She has wonderful challenges, themes and goodies. We actually ate our meals in the cells. Oh, and the price is so great, it could also be listed in my escape on a budget.
9. How do you escape on a budget? My scrapbooking guild: www.scrapguildillinois.com. I get 15 meetings with speakers, make and takes, and open crops once a month, one free crop and discounts on paid crops. All that for $15.00 a year.

Best food you've ever had while on vacation. Potato hash browns, made with Caraway seeds in a restaurant in Austria.

Good luck! Oh, and if you win, drop me a note on the comment section of this post. I would love to here about someone's good luck!

Why the Buzz about the Bags?!

My friends Tina and Julie saw the scrap bags I was making for scrapbookers and insisted that I add these to my line. They are actually my biggest seller at crops. But why the buzz about the bags? Well here are some reasons, I think they are well loved:
1) They're Pretty! Well I shop Tammy Tadd, and she has a great eye for fabric. Won't you be the prettiest cropper! Have you found them anywhere else with ruffles?
2) They're green, you trading in your plastic grocery bags for fabric. Now trade in your plastic bags taped to the table at the crop and at home for something green! I found I no longer had enough plastic bags for cropping anyway.
3) They're great for scraping off your cricut matts. While the opening is generous enough for the 6 x 12 matt to fit in, I felt making the opening big enough for the 12 x 12 matt might we too big and cumbersome. So, just scrape off half the 12 x 12 matt at a time. I love how quick and easy it is to clean off my matt!

4) They're washable! I use velcro to attach the bag portion, so if you need to wash the bag you can.
5) They're easy to empty! Just remove the bag and turn inside out over the garbage.
6) If you sew, the weight doubles as a pin cushion.
7) These bags are great for all scrapbookers, with and with out Cricuts!
I actually had a TAC (The Angel Company) consultant buy 6 of these for her stamp camps. Thanks Pat!

Another fabric that inspired a cut file

You may have noticed that I made several attempts to make a church window cut file. Well, here is the fabric that inspired the cut.
As you can see my version, pales in comparison to the Michael Miller fabric. I think there is something so comforting to me about the church feel of this fabric and I like that this seems to have a Celtic influence.
I made a scrapbag with this fabric, and added the green for a pop of fun color. I have always loved blue and hope to one day finish my craft room with white, blue and green. The lining is purple, and is pulled from the purple in the top banding.

Pink Journey Lace Paper to Share

Just playing today with Pink Journey, on loan from my friend Eileen. Thanks Eileen!
Here is the cut file. You will need Pink Journey and George Basic Shapes. Watch when you lift the stem portion off the bottom of this cut. Mine ripped when I tried to work too fast. I love lace card stock!

Pazzlier's Rejoice! I haven't forgotten about you!

Well I have just finished my Pazzle Inspiration cover. My gracious friend Lynn, was so generous to share her machine for pattern development, multiple fittings and a photo shoot. Thanks Lynn! I will finalize my pattern and hope to list it on Etsy no later than tomorrow. The fabric is Michael Miller and I was so happy to find a butterfly for a Pazzle! The little embelly has a wonderful button I got at Tammy Tadd Designs.

Recession Retro Create Cover

Well, I finally finished my Recession Retro Create Cover. I made a series of three sketches for Cricut covers with organza ruffles, all inspired by 1930 Recession fashion. I know, I have problems! I started the first and realized that hemming organza was going to place this cover out of my price point range. Boy, hemming organza is labor intensive. So, I have finished it, and it will be a one of a kind! If you like it, you may want to act fast, I have had items sell in less than an hour on Etsy and I will not make this style ruffle again. Not to worry if you like the Lilly Pond fabric by In the Beginning fabrics, I still have more ideas to make another recession retro look.
I did not want to cover up Wendy Slotboom's beautiful fabric, so instead, I added a few beads. Wish my camera could get in closer and focus! I also wish you could see the fabrics in person. Photos never seem to do color justice, weather you are photographing paper or fabric. I am so happy with this cover and the shirtwaist looking stripe, the pretty details and the feminine look.
